Award-winning Summer Theater from the Banyan Theater Company

The award-winning Banyan Theater Company, based in Sarasota on Florida’s Gulf coast, produces professional theater with outstanding actors performing internationally celebrated plays each summer.  Works by playwrights such as George Bernard Shaw, Chekhov, Ibsen, Pinter and Stoppard are featured to provide the community – and Florida vacation villa and resort guests visiting the area – with a distinctive theater experience.

In the summer of 2007, the Banyan Theater Company will perform A Doll House (by Henrik Ibsen and adapted by Frank McGuinness) between June 28 and July 15.  Throughout this 1997 Tony Award-winning 19th century play, Nora, a bold, young housewife, copes with her marriage and her future.
 
Also in 2007, Florida vacation villa  and hotel guests and local theater enthusiasts can partake of Enigma Variations (by Eric-Emmanuel Schmitt and translated by Jeremy Sams), to be performed from July 19 through August 5.  “Riveting throughout with revelations and reversals,” claimed LA Weekly, this drama focuses on a Nobel Prize-winning author named Abel Znorko, who leads a reclusive existence on a distant island in the Norwegian Sea.  Journalist Erik Larsen arrives to interview Abel about his latest book – a compilation of letters between two lovers.  As the tale unfolds, controversy and the layers of a complex triangular relationship are exposed.
    
     Finally, Faith Healer (by Brian Friel) will be shown between August 9 and August 26 by the Banyan Theater Company.  In this production, Frank Hardy is a charismatic Irishman who roams the backroads of Wales peddling healing miracles.  Is he endowed with a remarkable and awesome gift, or is he a con man?  Discover the truth when you enjoy one of our Florida vacation villas and see the play, heralded as “A rare work of art” by The New York Times.
